Bangladesh – Uncertainty remains over management of Savar CETP

Reports in Bangladesh suggest the national government will take over responsibility for the running of the central effluent treatment plant (CETP) at the Savar tanning cluster. The government is believed to be preparing to register a company to do this, with tannery owners in the cluster being members of this company. The government came to this decision following a meeting that was presided over by industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun. Stakeholders of the tanning industry were also involved.  Earlier this year, local media reported that tannery owners were planning to form a joint company, through which they would manage the CETP in Savar.
